Terry Lanni dreamed of rafting the Salmon River for over 25 years and never thought she would be able to. At the age of 68, less than 17 months after being diagnosed with lung cancer, Terry spent six days on the Salmon River with 12 other survivors who soon became, in her words, ‘family’. Terry got emotional when she talked about how much joy the Salmon River trip gave her. “I discovered on this trip why I am still alive. God has shown me to work with River Discovery to spread the word on how wonderful this trip is and what a blessing, the peacefulness it brings to you. I made friendships that will last as long as I live.” After she returned from the adventure program, Terry volunteered in the River Discovery office. She wrote thank you notes, helped with mailings and talked about her family that she loved so much. It was her idea to have a quilt raffle to fund a scholarship for a participant in the adult program. When she attended River Discovery, Terry suffered from what she thought was an injury to her shoulder. Three months later she found out that the injury was actually cancer. She fought but did not win that battle. Terry was a gentle soul. When she died, she was at peace and surrounded by family. We miss her.
