Dear Donors, My name is Nicole Cassity, a 24 year old stay-at-home mom, and participant in the 2010 Adult River Discovery program. It is my sincerest hope that my words will paint a picture of my experience and that you will have a clear understanding of just how incredible your support is and will continue to be. This is my story: In August of 2009 I received devastating news. Although I had no family history, I had breast cancer, a disease that most commonly strikes women in their 60’s. After a year of fighting for my life with a double mastectomy and chemotherapy, I was given a clean bill of health and was ready to begin my walk down the road to recovery. Being a mom to an infant at diagnosis, I didn’t have enough time to filter through the emotions and physical changes my cancer diagnosis had given me. River Discovery gave me time to focus on myself. Time to heal. My experience on the river was nothing short of a blessing. I found myself facing some of my biggest fears like heights and drowning. After swimming my first rapid and getting right back in my kayak or touching the ground after rappelling off of the side of a cliff I realized nothing was impossible after fighting cancer. Being surrounded by others who are making the same breakthroughs, absolutely unexplainable! I’d like to encourage you to donate to this life changing organization, no matter the size of your gift, it makes a difference and everything helps.
